I also noticed the current firmware version is 3.04h, do I need to send in my other lenses (3.00L) for firmware update?

Thanks.

Internal use is what it says - internal use. Trust me there is no tea leave to read here.

3.00 is considered up to date. The subsequent changes are irrelevant to most people.

3.01 removal of some aperture diaphragm diagnostic check.
3.02 use in cinematography without Canon camera body.
3.03 add diagnostic check when autofocus motor fails.
3.04 extend the range of AF microadjustment to +/- 40.

3.04 would be useful for several of my lenses. Is there a way to download the upgrade without sending in the lenses?

Thanks.

Your post was the reason why I wrote 3.04 but unfortunately the change was not downloadable.

+/- 40 may not work in some cases. There is some internal adjustment in the conurus firmware. Adding your micro-adjustment to the internal adjustment, the sum may exceed the -128 to 127 range. There are no overflow checks. So, for example, if it was supposed to be -130 it would wrap around and become +126 giving you the exact opposite result.

What I am trying to say is that if we are not sure if the camera body is calibrated properly, just having a very wide adjustment range isn't going to help. All AF adjustments, be it offered by the camera body or the lens, are supposed to be fine tunings to account for sample variations among camera bodies, but not corrections for major mis-calibrations or maladjustments.

sorry for my vague expression, but I'm asking the "H" in the Internal Use column. Like P=Pass, F=Fail, R=Repaired, etc.

Thanks

Your AF test result is under the 'AF test' heading. Internal use means it has a meaning only to our personnel. It was not intended to convey any message to the customer.

There are newer firmware versions coming out but they are not for every lens. We will continue to ship 3.04 (the stable release) for most lenses.
3.05 bug fixes for Sigma SA mount only
3.06 fixes a rare autofocus problem affecting only one 70-300 so far. All other 70-300's will continue to be programmed with the stable release version 3.04.
3.07 add support for Contax 645 lenses, except for Tele-Apotessar 4/350.
3.10 add support for Contax 645 Tele-Apotessar 4/350 and focus trap function for Apo-Makro-Planar 4/120. AF accuracy improvement for Tele-Apotessar 400/4.

3.11 bug fix for still pictures in LiveView when direct aperture control using aperture ring of the lens is used. (Movie capture is always fine and also if you control the aperture with the camera body, stills are fine, too.)
3.12 "faking" a f/6.3 maximum aperture so as to enable AF even when a teleconverter is attached. Fixed a focus accuracy issue for 24-85 at 85mm at closest focusing distance. (Other focal lengths and other focusing distances are always fine.)
3.13 minor AF accuracy improvements for 17-35, 24-85, 28-80 and 70-300. Fixed also an AF accuracy problem at minimum focusing distance for 50/1.4 (again, medium and long distances are always fine).
3.14 AF accuracy improvement for 24-85 at 35mm at infinity.

I have a number of lenses currently with Conurus which are shown on your tracking system as now having been converted, but have not yet been shipped back and still have some way to go in their queue position.

These are mainly shown as having been loaded with Firmware version 3.10 (although one lens is shown as version 3.04) and I was wondering whether you would normally further update the Firmware version of these lenses before they are sent out. I think the 3.11 LiveView fix for still photography is something I would be likely to use on all of these lenses, whilst one of them in particular is a 24-85mm which may potentially benefit even further from being updated to the latest version 3.12 to take advantage of any focus accuracy improvement at close focus distances, as referred to above.

Many Thanks, and I am becoming increasingly excited about getting the first of these lenses back soon to start making use of them in any event - whatever Firmware version they have loaded!

Thank you for your question. We always update lenses to the latest firmware version at the last minute just before we ship, and we will certainly do that to your lenses, too.
